Janitor/Custodial Assistant -Somerset County
Department: Maintenance Department Job Title: Part-Time Janitorial/Custodial Assistant Classification: Non-Exempt/Non-Union Work Hours: Flexible (20 hours per week) Current Budgeted Wage: $17.50 per hour
Job Summary:
This position is under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor ensuring that County buildings are kept clean, sanitary, and orderly. County buildings include the Courthouse, Regional Communications Center and Emergency Operations Center.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Vacuum and dust daily
· Clean bathrooms (Floors & Fixtures)
· Wash windows (exterior twice per year)
· Wash floors and doors as needed
· Empty wastebaskets daily
· Set up and break down meeting rooms for departmental meetings
· Ensure the courtroom is prepared for court days
· Stock the jury bathrooms, empty the trash, and clean the judge’s chambers as needed
· Sweep and mop courtroom hallways and regularly clean stairways and entryways
· Review and maintain cleaning supplies
· Secure exterior doors if employee is the last person to leave the building.
· Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or the County Administrator
Qualifications and Abilities:
· High School graduate or Equivalent
· Must pass a criminal background check
· Experience in janitorial duties
· Basic skills to use tools and material commonly used in cleaning activities
· Ability to work independently and handle frequent interruptions
· Ability to work discreetly around professional activities and maintain confidentiality
· Good interpersonal skills with all County staff members
· Dependably adheres to work schedule
· Maintain a professional appearance
